A male passenger on an Okay Airways flight pressed the alarm button hurriedly after seeing a fuel leak from the aircraft through the airplane window on Jan.13, when the aircraft was taxiing on the runway at the Harbin Taiping International Airport.
Ms Zhang, a passenger boarded the flight BK2897 heading for Jixi on Jan. 13 and seated in the fifth row, said a man in the back row pressed the alarm button and required the takeoff be suspended at once. The aircraft returned to the parking apron afterwards.
The man who pressed the alarm button said with a southern accent that there has been an obvious fuel leak from the aircraft. If it was jet fuel leak, the aircraft could run out of fuel in flight; if it was hydraulic oil, the aircraft might be unable to deploy its landing gear when landing.
Passengers were then informed by the airline that their flight was postponed indefinitely. They could choose to wait or refund their tickets.
The reporter contacted the airport later and was told that flight BK2897 was cancelled due to mechanical failure.
Okay Airways said the reason for the cancellation was hydraulic oil leak and emergent maintenance was needed.
