The Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental set for first delivery to airline launch customer Lufthansa completed its first production flight Wednesday.
The airplane took off from Paine Field, beside Boeing's wide-body production plant in Everett, Wash., at 8:55 a.m. and returned about three hours later, according to FlightAware. The 747-8 Intercontinental is the passenger variant of Boeing's new 747-8. The company already has delivered 10 747-8 Freighters. It is scheduled to deliver the first Intercontinental to a VIP customer (reportedly the government of Kuwait) early this year, with Lufthansa getting its first one this spring.
Boeing has orders for 36 Intercontinentals and 70 freighters.
