Xiamen Airport Starts Official Running of RNP System
Mar. 14, 2012
Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport has started the official operation of its RNP (Required Navigation Performance) system from March 8th. Airlines with relevant qualifications can fly RNP landing or departure from the airport, reports Xiamen Daily.
RNP is a type of performance-based navigation (PBN) that allows an aircraft to fly a specific path between two 3-dimensionally defined points in space.
The adopt of the RNP system, which combines the avionics in a modern jet airliner with GPS to guide pilots along a narrow path to the airport, is a major breakthrough for Xiamen Airport to make full use of the airspace in Xiamen.
The system can help increase the airport's operating efficiency and save space for more fights, according to the report.
