Kunming Changshui International Airport, the new airport in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan province, was officially put into operation on June 28th. The airport, built with a total investment of 23 billion yuan (US$3.6 billion), will have an initial annual throughput of 38 million passengers, 950,000 tonnes of cargo and mail. It will be able to handle 303,000 aircraft movements per year. The airport will act as an aviation hub for Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
