Strategic Partnership Between Air China and Lufthansa Continues
Air China Limited | Mar. 25, 2007
On March 25, Air China and its strategic partner Lufthansa continued their cooperation by increasing the frequency on the Sino-German routes to 66 flights per week. The routes cover air services between Frankfurt or Munich and Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Air China has a long-term strategic partnership with Lufthansa, started their first codeshares in October 2000 and signed a further five-year codeshare agreement in May 2006. The cooperation aims to provide passengers with extensive route network, smooth flight links and consistent products and services to consolidate and enhance both airlines' market competitiveness.
Air China and Lufthansa have already developed a full-scale codesharing, carrying both airlines' codes on all Sino-German route flights. In addition, Air China's flight no. was carried from Frankfurt and Munich to other 8 German cities: Berlin and Hamburg etc., while Lufthansa's flight no. was carried to more Chinese cities. The third country codesharing also offers passengers more flight options between China, Brazil and Spain.
The two airlines also developed Frequent Flyer Program (FFP) cooperation which enables both airlines' FFP members to collect points and redeem airfares on all Air China or Lufthansa's self-operating flights. Passengers also enjoy seamless transfer services between the two airlines via through check-in. Both airlines profit from the partnership and bring many thousands of passengers to both sides every year.
AMECO Beijing, established on August 1, 1989, is a joint venture between Air China and Lufthansa. It is the first joint venture in China's aviation sector with the most powerful maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities, but also the first aircraft maintenance and engineering company in China holding certificates from FAA, EASA, CAAC and other 18 other airworthiness authorities.
In 2006, Lufthansa as a mentor recommended Air China to join the world's largest airline alliance - Star Alliance. And now Air China is striving to fulfil the requirements of joining Star Alliance.
