Tiger Airways Response to Reports About Qantas Boosting Domestic Fleet
Mar. 29, 2007
Media reports on March 29 suggesting Qantas has decided that four Boeing 767-300 aircraft that are due to be sold, will be retained for its Australian domestic operations and Jetstar will operate nine additional Airbus A320 aircraft only goes to confirm what Tiger Airways has been saying all along - Australian consumers are paying too high a price for the cozy duopoly that currently exists within the Australian domestic market.
Would this "sudden" decision by Qantas to expand Jetstar's fleet have taken place without Tiger Airways entering Australia's domestic market later this year? The entry of Tiger Airways will see greater choice and fairer pricing for the long suffering Australian consumers.
Tony Davis, Tiger Airways CEO said: "Tiger Airways is the only airline committed to offering low, low fares in Australia. Unlike our competitors we will not be forced into expensive and ill conceived, knee jerk responses. We remain committed to becoming Australia's only true low fare airline."
