Garuda Jets in Missile Scare
Apr. 14, 2007
Two Garuda Indonesia airliners heading to Saudi Arabia were forced to turn around and return due to a missile test by India, officials in Jakarta complained.
India's ambassador to Jakarta would be called in to explain, Foreign Ministry spokesman Kristianto Legowo said at a special briefing. But he did not reveal how close the missile had been to the aircraft on April 13.
Notification of events such as missile tests is usually passed to the International Air Transport Association and the International Civil Aviation Organization.
On April 12, India carried out a successful test of its longest-range ballistic missile, the Agni III - capable of carrying a nuclear warhead more than 3,000 kilometers - off its east coast.
