Macau International Airport at New Routes Asia in Hainan

Macau International Airport Company Limited delegation attended the "New Routes Asia" Conference in Hainan from March 25-27 this year, taking active participation to introduce the latest tourism and aviation development of Macau amongst international and mainland China airlines and discussing on the opportunity to start new routes to Macau.
The annual conference is scheduled to happen in one of the Asian countries and this year particularly attracted 300 participants from over 102 airlines and 60 airports to gather in Hainan. The event objective is to provide a one to one meeting opportunity between airlines and airports, discussing on the future routes development. Along the gradual repositioning of Macau as being an international tourist destination, many airline representatives expressed interest to see Macau and know more about the place. Cebu Pacific, which Macau International Airport in recent contact with, also hoping to begin air service in Macau soon this mid year. In addition, some airports in the region are looking forwards to working with the base carriers of Macau, to develop new routes and new markets.
Aside from the current East Asian and Mainland China market, Macau International Airport taking this trip to approach some of the airlines from mid Asia, seeing the upcoming growth of outbound traffic. At the following day after the closing of event, Qatar Airways Sr. Commercial Planning Officer (Network), Mr. Sendil Kimaran, visited Macau and saw himself the true vibrancy of the city. The on-going grand scale projects have astounded him and he added that they would keep close contact with Macau International Airport to keep track with the passenger and cargo trend, which would be necessary in planning the service in future.
Besides, seeing the emerging market needs and to continuously in providing value-added service to passengers, it recently launched the Express Link Check-in Service at Hong Kong Shun Tak Ferry Terminal where passengers flying Macau International Airport can directly check-in their luggage in Hong Kong. A joint travel promotion with airlines and Turbojet was initiated and received good feedback.
Up till the end of March of 2007, the cumulative number of passengers for the year had reached to 1,251,743, or an increase of 17% when compared to the same period last year, whilst handled cargo of up to 42,829 metric tons, an decrease of 21% and the number of aircraft movement numbered 12,865 or an increase of 8% on last year. Concluding the passenger performance of the first quarter of 2007, passenger number of the two low cost carriers recorded growth up to 40% comparing to same period of last year and accounts for 17% of the Macau market. While the capacity of Air Macau also increased to 15%, accounts for 42% of the market share. The newly established Viva Macau is growing steadily too. According to regional routes comparison, Taiwan still accounts for 48% of Macau International Airport traffic, mainland China of 31%, other region including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia and Maldives,etc, of 28%.
