Sukhothai Airport Wins EIA Monitoring Awards 2006

Sukhothai Airport recently received the first honor in "The EIA Monitoring Awards 2006" for the fifth consecutive year over its distinctive environment management.
In this occasion; H.E. Mr. Kasem Sanitwong na Ayuthaya, Thailand's Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, presented the award to the airport's Senior Director, Mr. Dumrongvoot Viriyah.
The award - EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) Monitoring Awards - is only given to business entities that are capable of maintaining environmental awareness and protection.
As assessed for 2006, Sukhothai Airport has shown commitment in its continuous effort to assure the quality of the environmentally-friendly operation within the airport and its vicinity for five years in a row.
Among the green projects are the 'Big Clean Day', garbage management, organic rice farming (for in-flight catering), energy saving project, etc.
Sukhothai Airport, opened in 1996, is Bangkok Airways' second privately-owned airport serving traffic to and from Bangkok as well as Chiang Mai.
Capable of accommodating 70-seat ATR72 aircraft, the airport was constructed with inspiration from nearby Thai temples dated from the ancient Sukhothai period.
