May 25, 2007
AirAsia, the largest and leading low-cost carrier will commence its sixth (6th) daily direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi beginning July 17, 2007, making it the only airline in Malaysia that offers the highest frequency to the legendary island. The route will be served by an Airbus A320 aircraft.
Kathleen Tan, Executive Vice President - Commercial, AirAsia, said, "The demand for this route has been phenomenal with strong loads recorded throughout the year. This proves that Langkawi is still one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaysia. Not only is the island famous for its beautiful beaches and tasty local food, duty free shopping certainly adds to the attraction. The lure of Langkawi's serenity makes it an ideal short retreat for families and busy working professionals."
"AirAsia's extensive network attracts a diverse mix of passengers from the ASEAN countries to converge at LCC Terminal hub (Kuala Lumpur) and connect to another city within the region. In addition to promoting Visit Malaysia Year 2007, the timing to commence the additional frequency is perfect as it is now the peak season for visitors from the Middle East. Of course, with our low fares, we will continue to increase demand for travel. Stronger connectivity serves to boost tourism and increase passenger traffic which bodes well for Visit Malaysia Year," she added.
AirAsia will also be increasing its flight frequencies to Sibu, Sarawak by introducing its third (3rd) daily direct flight effective July 17, 2007. In addition to that, AirAsia is proud to announce that the Kuala Lumpur - Sibu route will be operated fully on Airbus for the quality and comfort of its guests.
