China Aviation Daily | Jul. 10, 2012
Meiya Air Co., Ltd. (Meiya Air), a class A airline in China approved by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), is China's first tourism and chartered airline with a fleet mainly on amphibious aircraft. Meiya Air is also the first pilot program airline company on amphibious aircraft in China established by CAAC.
Meiya Air has sealed an order with Viking Air to introduce DHC-6 Series 400 Twin Otter to China. The first order is on five float equipped Twin Otters with delivery starting in as early as 2013.
The DHC-6 Twin Otter is the most successful Canada-made 19-seat business aircraft. More than 800 of this type of aircraft have been manufactured so far. The Twin Otter aircraft is famous for its durability and reliable STOL utility. The unique design and imperishability of the Twin Otter is perhaps evident by the fact that the Twin Otter aircraft is still the world's largest sales 19-seat general aviation aircraft. Viking Air resumed production of the DHC-6 Series 400 Twin Otter aircraft in 2006. The aircraft is equipped with twin turbine engines ideally suited to operate in all weather conditions and climates. It is also the most reliable and largest amphibious aircraft in the world. Currently there are more than 100 DHC-6 amphibious aircraft flying around the globe.
Meiya Air is very pleased to partner with such an excellent aircraft manufacturer. The current order of five DHC-6 Series 400 Twin Otter aircraft is believed to be the initial purchase only for use in Sanya, Hainan Island, as Meiya intends to establish a fleet of twenty DHC-6 Series 400 Twin Otter aircraft in the next ten years. Meiya Air looks forward to a long-term mutually beneficial business relationship with Viking Air.
