Airports Introduce "Weibo Inquiry" Service
Feb. 25, 2013
On Feb. 24, Changzhou Benniu Airport (CZX) has cooperated with "VeryZhun", China's leading flight status service provider, to launch real time flight status and airport weather inquiry on its official Sina Weibo. One day later, Jiangxi Airport Group launched the same service on its official Weibo.
Passengers could check the real time flight status by @Changzhou Airport or Jiangxi Airport Group with their flight numbers. For example, on February 25, users post "MU2957 @Changzhou Airport", after waiting for 10-20 seconds, the system will automatically reply "February 25 Flight #MU2957# has arrived at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport Terminal 3 with 18 minutes in advance".
Besides, the system allows users to check weather status as well by @Changzhou Airport or Jiangxi Airport Group with the city name. For example, users post "Changzhou @Changzhou Airport" on February 25, after a moment, the system will automatically comment "#Changzhou# visibility: 8,000 meters; airport weather forecasting: valid from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. February 25; ground wind: south wind (4.0M/S); visibility: 5,000 meters; weather: drow".
In the waiting hall, passengers could check flight status while posting status on their Weibo accounts, and they could enjoy entertainment and travel at the same time. This function is believed to bring more convenience for passengers.
In the past, airport staff needed to check flight data on system manually and forwarded the information to passengers one by one, which was more time- and manpower-consuming. When severe weather such as thunders, snowing or typhoon came, more than 70% of Weibo posts were asking about flight status, it could not ensure the inquiries to be replied in a short time manually. The cooperation between airports and "VeryZhun" not only allows passengers to check flight status online through Weibo, but also utilizes new media to relieve the pressure on traditional inquiries at airport.
