AAHK Fully Complies with Conditions of Environmental Permit for Permanent Aviation Fuel Facility
Airport Authority Hong Kong | May 30, 2007
Following the granting of an Environmental Permit by the Director of Environmental Protection of Hong Kong SAR Government to construct and operate a Permanent Aviation Fuel Facility (PAFF) in Tuen Mun 38, Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) said they are fully committed to complying with all the conditions imposed in the Permit.
The Permanent Aviation Fuel Facility is needed to ensure a sufficient supply of aviation fuel for Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). With an organisation-wide commitment to safety and environmental protection, AAHK said the PAFF is equipped with extensive safety features that meet or exceed Hong Kong and international standards.
Key features include a minimum spacing of 28.5 metres between the tanks and the PAFF site boundary, which well exceeds the relevant Hong Kong code. There is also a special design of sunken bund for tanks with a capacity well exceeding applicable international standards to contain any possible fuel spillage. Two additional impervious security walls and a landscape bund to minimise risks to parties outside the PAFF perimeter are also provided for.
AAHK has started planning for the setting up of a community liaison group to maintain two-way communication with the local community. AAHK is now updating information on a dedicated website at ***, which is connected to web cameras to provide 24-hour real time activities taking place at the PAFF. A team of experts is in place to carry out design audit to ensure that the installation of all design measures will be in strict compliance with safety standards.
