Japan's Narita International Airport ranked 17th in terms of airport charges in the world in 2006, down from seventh place the previous year, the operator of Japan's main international airport said on June 15 in reference to data compiled by a British research concern. The drop in rankings "probably reflects an average 20% cut in landing fees introduced in October 2005," a Narita International Airport Corp official said.
Transport Research Laboratory compared charges at 50 major international airports in the world, based on the costs of a landing and a departure for eight different aircraft types. Narita came 17th with costs totaling 5.2 million yen, while Kansai International Airport ranked sixth at 6.6 million yen. The most costly airport in the world was Toronto Pearson International Airport at the yen equivalent of 10.2 million yen.
