HKIA Records Healthy Growth in May
Airport Authority Hong Kong | Jun. 17, 2007
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) enjoyed solid growth in May 2007, with passenger volume and air traffic movements increasing 7.5% and 6.5%, respectively, over the same period last year, to 3.81 million and 24,760 movements. Cargo throughput, reversing the downward trend in recent months, grew 3.7% to 294,000 tonnes, resulting from rebound in demand for export shipments.
The Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong, Stanley Hui, said, "We saw strong visitor numbers in May, especially from Europe and the Mainland, where traffic was bolstered by the Golden Week holiday."
"To meet future increase in demand, we constantly enhance our infrastructure and services. Terminal 2, which was officially opened earlier this month, is a prime example of our commitment to serving the people of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta with state-of-the-art facilities," added Mr Hui.
For the 12 months ended May 31, 2007, passenger and cargo traffic reached 45.6 million and 3.59 million tonnes, respectively, 7.8% and 2.7% higher than year-earlier figures. Air traffic movements grew 4.2% to 285,000.
