Boeing Wins More Orders
Bloomberg News, Reuters | Jul. 09, 2007
Boeing has won more orders for its 787 Dreamliners.
Air Berlin is buying 25 of the planes for US$4 billion, the aircraft's largest order from a European airline.
Kuwaiti aircraft financing company Alafco said it had ordered 10 more Dreamliner planes, worth about US$1.6 billion at list prices, bringing its total of 787s on order to 22.
The new contracts bring the Dreamliner's order tally to 677 aircraft. Air Berlin's order includes options to purchase 10 additional airliners, said chief executive Joachim Hunold.
The 787 Dreamliner is Boeing's first new jetliner since 1995 and its most successful new plane in terms of orders.
The second-largest maker of commercial aircraft is counting on the 787 to win back leadership of the US$60 billion-a-year jetliner market from Airbus.
The 787 begins test flights around early September, and delivery to the first customer is slated for May 2008.
Including the Air Berlin purchase, the Dreamliner has orders from 47 customers worldwide, Chicago-based Boeing said.
