HKIA Sees Steady Growth in June
Jul. 15, 2007
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded solid growth in passenger and cargo volumes and air traffic movements (ATMs) in June 2007.
Passenger throughput and ATMs grew 5.7% and 5.6% from June 2006, to 3.85 million and 24,180, respectively. Continuing last month's upward trend, cargo traffic increased 5.3%, to 305,000 tonnes. "The continued rebound in cargo traffic is particularly pleasing, bearing in mind that air cargo is seasonally rather slow in the middle of the year", said Mr Stanley Hui, Airport Authority Hong Kong Chief Executive Officer.
For the first six months of 2007, passenger volumes rose 6.4%, to 22.7 million, while cargo traffic grew 1.5%, to 1.7 million tonnes, from the corresponding period in 2006. ATMs increased 4.4%, to 143,000.
Mr Stanley Hui said, "Looking ahead, we expect robust passenger outbound volumes as Hong Kong people take summer holidays and strong inbound traffic from Europe, the Mainland and Southeast Asia. Over the summer, we will offer a range of special events and activities to ensure that individuals and families have a pleasant, memorable airport experience."
Throughout July and August, Terminals 1 and 2 will feature magic shows, handicraft workshops, nail painting, story telling, balloon art, temporary tattoos, a photo exhibition and more.
For the 12 months ended June 30, 2007, passenger and cargo traffic reached 45.8 million and 3.6 million tonnes, respectively, an increase of 7.4% and 2.8% from year-earlier figures. ATMs rose 4.1%, to 287,000.
