Adelaide Airport Wins Further Praise
Jun. 18, 2007
Adelaide Airport has received another major Australian award for its new terminal building - this time from the Property Council of Australia.
The airport's Terminal 1 precinct received the Jones Lang Lasalle Award for Innovation and Excellence in Emerging Assets at the Property Council of Australia's annual awards at the Star City Casino in Sydney on June 16.
Adelaide Airport Ltd Managing Director, Phil Baker, said this award was the latest in a string of local and national awards collected by the airport in the past 12 months.
Earlier this year. Adelaide Airport was named as the world's second best airport in the 5-15 million passengers category at the Airports Council International 2006 awards for service quality.
Late last year it was named Australia's best capital city airport by the Australian Airports Association in 2006.
Adelaide Airport also received the President's Award for Infrastructure Development at the 2006 Urban Development Institute of Australia, SA Division awards and was named South Australian Achievement of the Year by the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport.
"The Property Council of Australia award is further recognition of the wonderful performance by the project team and all of the staff working at the airport," Mr Baker said.
"Following the completion of the terminal, Adelaide Airport has recorded the highest passenger growth of all major Australian airports in 2005/06 as reported by the ACCC, and has surpassed 6 million passengers per annum for the first time."
The AU$260 million Terminal 1 project was one of South Australia's largest privately-funded infrastructure projects and Australia's first true multi-user integrated terminal that allows domestic and international flights to depart from the same gates.
It is capable of facilitating 3000 passengers per hour, and can cater for up to 27 aircraft simultaneously.
Terminal 1 was designed by Hassell, constructed by Hansen Yuncken and project managed by Barry Phillis & Associates, with Rider Hunt contracted as Quantity Surveyor/Cost Consultant.
