Cathay Pacific Goes Triple Daily From Melbourne
Melbourne Airport Inc. | Jul. 19, 2007
Cathay Pacific's decision to increase its Melbourne-Hong Kong services from double daily to triple daily in October is excellent news for Victorian travelers and the State's tourism industry.
The increase will boost flights from 14 to 21 flights per week in and out of Melbourne, equating to more than 150,000 new seats between Hong Kong and Melbourne each year.
This additional daily flight will offer a late night departure from Melbourne and subsequent early morning arrival in Hong Kong, providing a significant benefit to business, leisure and budget travelers.
"Our lack of curfew is a great plus for airlines looking to increase capacity to Melbourne. It means that business passengers can fly overnight; arriving in Hong Kong first thing in the morning, ready for onward connections or the Asian business day," said Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Barlow.
"And for leisure travellers this is also a key advantage - it means they will be able to start their holiday straight away and save on a night's accommodation," Mr Barlow said.
"With Cathay Pacific and sister airline Dragonair serving 22 ports in China, this new service will make travel even easier between Melbourne and China, our fastest growing market," he said.
Cathay Pacific provides passengers with excellent European connections to and from Rome, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris. This new service, set to start on October 1, is a significant win for Victoria, which is currently experiencing a significant shortfall of airline seat capacity.
