On July 23, president of Brazilian TAM Airlines Marco Antonio Bologna said that the United States' BMS body identification enterprise has been contracted to help identify victims of Brazil's worst air disaster.

Forensic experts have had serious difficulties in identifying the victims for most of them were seriously burned or smashed in the crash.

The July 17 crash was the deadliest in Brazil's aviation history, in which a TAM airlines Airbus A320 crashed into a fuel station and exploded on landing at the Congonhas airport, killing nearly 200 people, including 187 aboard and more on the ground.

On July 22, relatives of the victims demonstrated Sunday near the scene of the carnage, angry that many of the dead remain unidentified several days after the disaster.
