Jul. 31, 2007
An-12 freighter belonging to cargo carrier Atran crashed shortly after takeoff from Moscow Domodedovo on July 29, killing all seven crew onboard.
Flight 9655 was on its way to Omsk with nine tons of cargo but crashed and burned in a forest about 4 km. from the end of Runway 32C.
The Ivchenko AI-20M-6-powered turboprop first flew in 1964, according to the Flight Safety Foundation's Aviation Safety Network.
It was Atran's first hull loss accident.
Itar Tass news agency reported that weather conditions were "normal" at DME and that, according to Atran, the aircraft "underwent a serious technical examination in May."
All three flight data recorders reportedly have been recovered.
Founded in 1993, Atran is 25% owned by the Russian government and operates six An-12s, six IL-76Ts and three An-26s, Itar Tass reported.
