Cathay Pacific's Daily Service to Adelaide Welcomed
Adelaide Airport Limited | Jul. 18, 2007
On July 18, Adelaide Airport Ltd (AAL) Managing Director Phil Baker welcomed an announcement by Cathay Pacific that it will fly daily between Adelaide and Hong Kong from October 1.
Cathay Pacific currently flies four times a week between Adelaide and Hong Kong.
"This is great news for Adelaide Airport and for South Australian travellers. A daily flight between Hong Kong and Adelaide opens up further connections to destinations across Europe, Asia and North America," Mr Baker said.
"It is also further evidence that the success of the new terminal is continuing to attract more international air traffic."
Recently, Adelaide Airport Ltd announced plans to expand Terminal 1(T1) by adding new aerobridges and creating more aircraft parking bays to cater for an anticipated rapid expansion in air traffic.
Mr Baker said AAL had brought forward its expansion plans due to a combination of increased passenger numbers, more airlines seeking to include Adelaide as a destination, existing airlines adding flights and anticipated demand generated by the South Australia's mining boom.
"While we presently have the flexibility and capacity to welcome extra services largely as a result of our unique common-user design, this announcement by Cathay Pacific highlights the fact we need to keep planning well into the future to ensure we can cater for more airlines flying more often," Mr Baker said.
Cathay Pacific has indicated the extra flights will fly to the same schedule and triangular routing as the current flights - Hong Kong-Adelaide, then Adelaide-Melbourne-Hong Kong.
Flights depart Adelaide at 11.00am arriving in Hong Kong at 10.05pm. Southbound flights depart Hong Kong at 11.35pm and arrive in Adelaide at 9.40am.
