Shanghai-based Juneyao Airlines Co., Ltd. (HO) has filed an application with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to launch its own low-cost carrier in Guangzhou, said the company's President Wang Junjin in an interview.
Wang revealed that the new subsidiary will be a joint venture between Juneyao Airlines and CTI, focusing on the Pearl River Delta region. The low-cost carrier will be named as "Jiuyuan Airlines", which indicates 9 yuan tickets will be offered every week after the new LCC starts operation.
Moreover, the new entrant, in the form of independent carrier, will complete its parent to meet the needs of various travelers. Currently, HO owns a modern fleet of 33 aircraft including 32 A320 aircraft, which is expected to 34 aircraft by the end of this year and to 50 in 2015.
On November 1, Juneyao Airlines officially launched its first direct cross-strait flight linking Shanghai and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Passenger load factor of the first six flights climbs to 95 percent on the Shanghai-Kaohsiung maiden flight on November 1. Wang added that the airline will open another flight to Taipei on December 1, with five flights weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. In addition, more international flights to Southeast Asia will be opened in the future.
