In order to improve clearance rate and bring better boarding experience for passengers, Haikou Meilan International Airport (HAK) employed KABA twin-aisle self-boarding gates after it introduced self-boarding service in July, 2013. It becomes the first domestic airport realizing self-boarding.
It is known that with more than 10 million of passenger throughout, HAK installed 4 KABA twin-aisle self-boarding devices supporting 2D and 1D barcodes boarding passes. Passengers can board their flights by scanning their 2D or 1D barcodes on their boarding passes on the self-boarding devices, which would speed up boarding procedures and achieve quick access.
According to the airport, after employing self-boarding system, the airport can handle 12 passengers every minute, which meets world-class airport standards and achieves a 5-star rating from Skytrax. Meanwhile, the devices support ID card recognition, which will allow passengers to board their flights by scanning their identity cards in the future.
