New Xiamen Airport Expected to Open in 2020

Xiamen's new Xiangan Airport is expected to be put into operation in 2020, adding a passenger volume of 45 million to the city, Xiamen Daily reported on April 21.
According to the schedule, the airport will build two runways, a 540,000 square meters' terminal, with a passenger throughput capacity of 45 million by 2020. In the long-term, it is designed to handle 75 million passengers annual with four runways.
On April 18, Li Jiaxiang, chief of Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), accompanied by Lin Guoyao, deputy mayor of Xiamen, paid a visit to Xiamen Airlines (MF) to investigate and review the preparatory work for the construction of the new airport. Li expressed the hope that the relevant departments can make preparations for the construction of the new airport actively. At the same time, the aviation watchdog will speed up the approval procedures as soon as possible, to maintain the rapid and healthy development of the aviation industry in the region.
