Air China (CA) will operate the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on North American routes and is studying the possibility of serving Mexico, the airline said Tuesday in Washington DC.
The airline Tuesday launched a service between Beijing and Washington DC using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. It is the airline's sixth destination in the U.S. following New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and Honolulu.
The Beijing-based carrier said it will launch services to secondary cities in North America after taking delivery of the first of 15 787-9 Dreamliners.
Air China is the first 787-9 operator in China, as China Southern Airlines (CZ), Hainan Airlines (HU) and Xiamen Airlines (MF) all hold the 787-8 orders. The former has a fuselage stretched by 20 feet (6 meters) and offers 40 more seats.
Boeing has already delivered nine Dreamliners to China Southern while Hainan Airlines has eight. Xiamen Airlines will take delivery of its first 787 in July and Air China is scheduled to get its first 787-9 in the fourth quarter of 2015.
The Beijing-based carrier said there is potential in serving Mexico amid the strong traffic between the two nations.
