Tianjin Binhai International Airport (TSN), one of the busiest airports in North China, opened a new terminal (T2) on Thursday, receiving its first passengers this morning after a China Southern Airlines (CZ) flight arrived from Dalian.
The first inbound and outbound flight of the day, China Southern flight CZ6579 from Dalian landed in Tianjin at 8:33 a.m. and departed for Chongqing at 9:55 a.m. It was the first of China Southern's 18 scheduled flight departures and arrivals at Terminal 2 today.
Tianjin Airport's T2 will serve domestic flights and its T1 serves international flights, respectively. The check-in counters will be closed 45 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time at both T1 and T2.
Covering a total area of 248,000 square meters, the new terminal has three check-in islands with 72 counters, 40 aircraft stands and 20 security channels. The second floor will be used as an arrivals hall, while the first floor is a departure hall.
With the opening of Terminal 2, Tianjin Airport has realized an operating mode of dual-terminal and dual-runway. Covering an area of 364,000 square meters, the airport is capable of handling 30 million to 50 million passengers and 1 million tons of cargo &mail annually.
Along with the new terminal put into operation, Tianjin Metro Line 2 is connected to the airport. Since Tianjin Airport opened a city terminal at the Beijing South Railway Station this May, travelers will be able to get to the airport in no more than 60 minutes from Beijing South Railway station by taking a combination of "train and subway" or "train and shuttle bus". Besides, a high-speed railway from Beijing to Tianjin will be completed in the near further, which could cut down the transit time for passengers in Beijing. Upon completion, travelers will take a 45-minute train ride from Beijing South Railway Station to the Tianjin airport.
At Terminal 2, passengers benefit from easier, faster routes through check-in and security on departure and through border control on arrival. Meanwhile, they can also enjoy a wide variety of shopping, dining and seating options in a light, airy, spacious building.
