Thailand to Form Committee on Aviation Standards

Thailand's Ministry of Transport decided on Sep. 27 to set up a committee to develop an aviation safety standards system, in afterthought of the Sep. 16 air crash at Phuket Airport.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Transport Minister Sansern Wong-Chaum said after a meeting with agencies concerned, agreed to form a new committee chaired by the director-general of the Department of Civil Aviation.
The newly-established committee will meet with representatives from eight domestic airlines every month to exchange ideas about amending regulations and increasing efficiency of aviation system. The first meeting will be held in October.
Department of Civil Aviation chief Chaisak Angkasuwan said that the black box, flight data recorders, of the aircraft of Thai budget airliner One-Two-Go which crashed at Phuket International Airport on Sep. 16, will be sent back to Thailand on Sep. 28 after they were sent to the U.S. for analysis earlier.
The data from analysis will be tabled at the meeting of the investigation committee to be chaired by Permanent Secretary for Transport.
According to Thai officials, who have worked with U.S. analysts, the information from the flight data recorders is intact but the conclusion on all details will be reached only after analysis of the information is conducted by Thai committee.
The identification center at Phuket will close on Sep. 28 after all 53 bodies of foreigners killed in the air plane crash had been identified and claimed by their relatives, with the last body of an Iranian national sent to the family on Sep. 26.
Among 89 victims killed in the crash, 36 were Thais and their remains were returned to their relatives earlier.
