The Sukhoi Civil Aircraft exhibited a 95-seat regional jet airliner on Sep. 26, saying it will make maiden flight this year and enter world market next year.
The Sukhoi SuperJet 100 regional airliner, designed to replace the antiquated Tu-134, has been built at the Gagarin Aircraft Building Corporation in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, news agencies reported.
Planes of the Su family, mostly military aircraft such as Su-27and Su-35, helped Russia's aircraft industry to survive recession in the 1990's and take a bite of share on the world markets.
"Sukhoi has set the task to increase aircraft production by 40 percent by 2010 and build aircraft worth US$4 billion by 2015," Mikhail Pogosyan, director-general of the Sukhoi Aircraft Holdings, said.
"Our goal is to gain 20 percent of this market and produce more than 1,000 middle-range planes," Pogosyan said, noting the market of regional aircraft will reach 5,000 planes in five years.
"The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a key project of Russia's civil aviation industry and Sukhoi plans to develop a second project of the medium-range plane by 2015," he said.
