American to Facilitate Miami Terminal Construction
ATW Daily News | Oct. 18, 2007
American Airlines, which has seen significant growth at Miami International Airport, said it is working with local officials to speed up construction of a new North Terminal.
In September, AA reported a 14.4% year-over-year increase in passengers at MIA.
As the project progresses, the airport will close Concourse A and American will operate out of C, D and E.
AA Senior VP-Miami, Caribbean and Latin America Peter Polara said the closure "ultimately will help to speed up the construction of the North Terminal project, which, once completed, will be one of the finest in the industry."
The new terminal will provide AA with 50 international gates, an automated people-mover, 49 ticket counter positions, 90 self-serve kiosks, a new baggage handling system and a customs facility.
AA and American Eagle currently operate 261 daily flights from MIA.
Separately, AA announced the June 2, 2008, launch of a six-times-weekly Chicago O'Hare-Moscow Domodedovo service aboard a 225-seat 767-300.
