Japan to Propose Aircraft CO2 Emission Goals to ICAO
Oct. 29, 2007
Japan will propose international reduction goals for carbon dioxide emitted by aircraft to the International Civil Aviation Organization by the end of 2008, government officials said on Oct. 28.
Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will draw up Japan's proposals for long-term international CO2 reduction goals as the ICAO plans to craft an action program for such goals among member states by the end of 2009, the officials said.
A study group being set up at the ministry's Civil Aviation Bureau will collect data on CO2 emissions from civil aircraft across the world. It will then examine how sharply the gas could be reduced if fuel efficient aircraft are introduced, the officials said.
