Garuda Indonesia to Raise Air Fares over Oil Price Rises
Xinhua | Oct. 29, 2007
Indonesia's flag carrier Garuda Indonesia will increase the additional cost called fuel surcharge by up to 30 percent in response to the soaring global oil prices beginning November, the company said on Oct. 29.
The surcharge will increase to 100,000 rupiah (around US$11) per passenger on domestic flights from the current 70,000 rupiah and to between US$70 and US$80 from previously US$60 on international flights.
"We will for sure impose fare hikes on Nov. 1," Garuda president director Emirsyah Satar told reporters.
The rises were inevitable because fuel accounted for some 50 percent of total costs in the industry, he said.
