Tiger Aviation to Establish New Korean Low Fare Airline with Incheon Metropolitan City
Nov. 05, 2007
On November 5, Tiger Aviation CEO, Tony Davis and Incheon City Mayor Ahn Sang-Soo, signed a letter of co-operation to establish a new Korean low fare airline called Incheon Tiger Airways, which will help establish Incheon into a leading air transport hub for North East Asia.
Tiger Aviation and Incheon Metropolitan City will commence work on the required approvals from the central government necessary to secure the appropriate traffic rights. Incheon City and Tiger Aviation will establish a joint venture company to form the new airline.
Tiger Aviation has a proven track record of operating successful low fare airline model in the Asia-Pacific region. Within three years of operations, Tiger Airways Singapore now flies to eight countries across Asia-Pacific with its fourth million passenger expected within coming months. Tiger Airways Australia is planning to commence domestic operations later this month.
This move paves the way for Tiger Airways to bring its low, low fares currently enjoyed by its customers in India, Australia, South East Asia and South China to the Northeast Asian region. With the buoyant economic growth in North Asia, the infrastructural heritage of the Incheon authorities and the strong track record of Tiger Aviation, travelers in Korea, China and Japan can look forward to enjoying affordable fuss-free, point to point travel in North Asia and beyond.
Tiger Aviation Group CEO Tony Davis said: "This partnership combines the complementary strengths of both parties. We are poised to be in a strong position to tap on emerging travel trends in the region. I'm confident that our customers in Korea, Eastern China and Japan will be receptive and embrace low cost travel so that they have the opportunity to see more of the region."
Tiger Aviation recently concluded an order with Airbus Industries for a further 50 aircraft, making a combined fleet of 70 aircraft by 2016. It is anticipated that the initial fleet operated by Incheon Tiger Airways will be 5 A320 aircraft.
