Following Hainan Airlines' Calabash Brothers and Air China's Giant Panda safety videos, China Eastern Airlines (MU) has launched a brand new animated in-flight safety demonstration - "Journey to the West".
The Shanghai-based carrier said it will initially introduce the latest safety video on board its domestic flight soon.
"Journey to the West" is a well-known Chinese novel published in the 16th Century during the Ming Dynasty. As one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature, the novel "Journey to the West" has been adapted into various feature-films, TV drama series and animated cartoons.
Based on the historical event of Monk Xuanzang's pilgrimage to the "Western Regions", today's India, during the early Tang Dynasty (618-907), "Journey to the West" presents an extended account of the legendary journey by Monk Xuanzang (literally meaning Tang Tripitaka Master), Sun Wukong (noted as Monkey King), Zhu Bajie (literally meaning "Pig of the Eight Prohibitions") and Sha Wujing (literally meaning "Sand Awakened to Purity") who travel to the "Western Regions" to fetch back some Buddhist scriptures (sutras) after many trials and much suffering.
The safety instruction was demonstrated by the four main characters of "Journey to the West" - the Monk Xuanzang and his three apprentices, including Monkey King, Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing.
The Shanghai-based carrier said it hopes to provide customers with innovative visual experience and draw their attention on the safety instruction by launching the new safety video.
