Photos: ANA Unveils Two New "Star Wars" Themed Aircraft Liveries
Aug. 18, 2015

Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) today announced that they will add two new designs to its "Star Wars" themed aircraft, which will join the previously unveiled R2-D2 livery on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

One of the designs unveiled Tuesday will feature the new droid BB-8, a brand new droid from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which will be on a Boeing 777-300ER.

The second will be a combination livery of both BB-8 and R2-D2 on the outside of a Boeing 767-300 aircraft.

The three Star Wars™ Jets will fly international and domestic routes, making ANA to be the only airline to offer all six Star Wars films on international routes.

On October 18, the R2-D2™ ANA Jet is scheduled to go into service on international routes, initially as flight NH116 between Tokyo and Vancouver, and then fly between Japan and other cities in ANA's robust international network including the U.S. (Seattle and San Jose), Europe (Munich, Paris and Brussels), Australia (Sydney), China (Beijing), and Indonesia (Jakarta). During November, the plane will fly domestic Japanese routes.

In March 2016, the BB-8 ANA Jet is scheduled to start serving international routes principally between Japan and North America (the exact routes have yet to be announced).

The company, which signed a five-year promotion license contract with the Walt Disney Co. in April, said the Star Wars flights will have headrest covers, napkins, cups and in-flight decorations featuring the film's characters. All of the six Star Wars movies will be included as part of the in-flight entertainment system for the first time in the world, ANA said.
