Vietnam Airlines (VN) took delivery of its second Airbus A350-900 aircraft on lease from U.S.-based CIT Finance & Leasing Corporation in France on September 19, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The aircraft, MSN15, carried the registration VN-A887, officially joined the fleet of Vietnam Airlines following a delivery flight from Toulouse to Hanoi, capital city of Vietnam. The A350 XWB departed Toulouse Airport (TLS) Saturday as HVN98 on delivery flight, which arrived in Vietnam on September 20.
Vietnam Airlines received its first A350-900 aircraft in June 2015, becoming the second customer, after Qatar Airways, to take delivery of the type. The carrier has 10 of the type on order, and is taking another three from leasing firms.
Separately, the flag carrier flew its A350 aircraft between Ho Chi Minh City and Narita near Tokyo on Sunday, becoming the first carrier to operate the new Airbus on a commercial service to or from Japan.
The airline's A350-900 features a three-class configuration with 305 seats, including 29 in Business Class, 45 in Premium Economy Class and 231 in Economy Class.
It has yet to decide whether to regularly use the aircraft for the Vietnam-Japan route, the company said.
