Xiamen Airlines (MF) has filed an application to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for launching two Boeing 787 services to North America's Vancouver and New York in mid-2016 and early 2017.
Pending government approval, the Xiamen-based carrier will fly its 787-8 Dreamliner from Xiamen to Vancouver starting July 2016, with four flights weekly, according to an announcement released Wednesday on the CAAC's official website.
Meanwhile, Xiamen Airlines is now waiting an approval from the aviation watchdog for a round-trip daily service from Fuzhou to New York in January 2017.
If granted approval, Xiamen Airlines will be the fourth Chinese air operator to serve the city, following Air China (CA), China Eastern Airlines (MU) and China Southern Airlines (CZ). The daily service would operate on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, beginning January 2017.
At present, the carrier has six 787-8s, with another six 787-9s pending delivery in 2016. In July 2015, Xiamen Airlines launched its first ever intercontinental rout with a 3x-weekly 787-8 service to Amsterdam.
Later this year, the Xiamen-based carrier will fly 787-8 Dreamliners from Fuzhou and Xiamen to Sydney, becoming the first airline from a second-tier Chinese city to take advantage of a major expansion of air capacity between Australia and China.
The Air Transportation Department of CAAC is soliciting public comments on the application until October 29, 2015.
