Deutsche Lufthansa AG (LH) has been given the green light by China's aviation watchdog to launch Ku-band satellite-supported Wi-Fi internet connectivity on the airline's 49 aircraft in China, the German carrier said on Friday.
Lufthansa was authorized to test in-flight Wi-Fi access on its 49 aircraft in China by temporarily using Ku-band satellite communication links, with the validity till May 31, 2016, according to a recent reply by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to the airline.
Previously, the service could only be offered after their aircraft flew out of the Chinese airspace.
With the authorization of the CAAC, Lufthansa becomes the first European airline allowed to launch in-flight Wi-Fi service in China.
