Urumqi Airlines Welcomes First Direct-Delivered 737-800 Aircraft

Chinese startup Urumqi Airlines (UQ) welcomed its first new Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Urumqi Diwopu International Airport (URC) on Nov. 13.
The 737-800, Registration B-6995, is the very first new aircraft and the first one delivered directly to the carrier by the Boeing Company. The U.S. manufacturer and Urumqi Air held a ceremony to celebrate the airline's first direct-delivered 737-800 in Seattle.
With the arrival of B-6995, Urumqi Air now owns a fleet to five 737-800s, among which three were transfered by Hainan Airlines and one leased from the U.S. aircraft leasing company Aviation Capital Group (ACG). Besides, the Urumqi-based carrier will take delivery of another new 737-800 in the middle of December.
The new 737-800 aircraft is equipped in a two-class configuration with eight first class seats and 156 economy class seats. Starting Nov. 15, it started operating newly-launched Urumqi-Lanzhou-Hefei and Urumqi-Lanzhou-Lianyugang routes.
Registered in Urumqi Gaoxin District on May 15, 2014, Urumqi Air is a joint venture between Hainan Airlines, the controlling stakeholder with a 70% stake and Urumqi Urban Construction Investment, holding the rest 30%, with total investment capital of 3 billion yuan.
The start-up carrier commenced operations in last August after taking delivery of its very first 737-800 aircraft from its parent Hainan Airlines on Aug. 20, 2014.
Currently, the regional carrier operates a fleet of five 737-800s, offering domestic flights from Urumqi to Zhengzhou, Chengdu, Xi'an, Lanzhou, Lianyungang, Mianyang, Haikou and etc.
Besides, Urumqi Air is planning to launch a new international service by the end of this year, the airline said.
