China Eastern Airlines (MU) filed an application to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for launching a nonstop international service from its hub Shanghai to Amsterdam, Netherlands next April.
Pending government approval, the Shanghai-based carrier will fly its Airbus A330-200 aircraft from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) in April 2016, with four flights weekly, according to an announcement released Friday on the website of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
In June 2015, China Eastern had expressed its willingness to launch more long-haul routes to Europe and the U.S. as increased competition among domestic airlines.
The Air Transportation Department of CAAC is soliciting public comments on the application until Nov. 28, 2015.
