The world's largest aircraft - Antonov An-225 "Mriya" bound for Shijiazhuang was diverted to Tianjin due to low visibility on Monday morning because of a thick smog.
The An-225 "Mriya" ("Mriya" is Ukrainian word for "dream) was scheduled to land at Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport (SJW) at 8:00 a.m. on Dec. 14, which would be the 7th landing of the cargo airliner at the airport.
Due to heavy smog hovering Shijiazhuang, the giant cargo plane made a diversion at Tianjin Binhai International Airport (TSN), marking it the second Chinese airport landing the world's largest plane. As air quality improved, the An-225 departed for Shijiazhuang at 1:20 p.m. from Tianjin airport.
The An-225 is powered by six turbofan engines and is the longest and heaviest airplane ever built with a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tonnes. It also has the largest wingspan of any aircraft in operational service.
