China's HNA Group is planning to return its Chang An Airlines (CGN, Xi'an Xianyang) unit to full operational service.
Airline sources told Aviation Week that HNA Group is in talks with the Shaanxi provincial government over plans to restore Chang An Airlines as an independent carrier specializing in flights within and out of the northwestern Chinese province.
At present, the carrier, though active, acts as a capacity provider leasing out its entire fleet of four B737-800s to Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou). As such, all flights operate under Hainan Airlines flightcodes.
In terms of ownership, Hainan Airlines controls Chang An with 61.43%, HNA Aviation with 16.69%, while the remaining 21.88% is held by a Beijing based company.
