Photos: Plane Spotter Collates Treasured Moments of Pilots Saluting Him from Cockpit Window
By John Hutchinson, The Daily Mail | Jan. 05, 2016

If there's one way to get a plane-spotter's spirits soaring, it is getting a wave from the pilot on the runway.

Football fans have felt it for years - it's that salute from one of their heroes that leaves a warm feeling inside.

These pictures show the wave of good fortune that one plane spotter -- a banker -- had at Manchester Airport.

Enda Burke's postings on social media have become an internet sensation, with the images viewed by thousands of followers throughout the world.

Manchester Airport's Runway Visitor Park is well known as the perfect place to observe and photograph planes.

Mr Burke, 34 -- known as an #AVGEEK -- has captured many a wave from this favoured spot.

He said: "Whenever I have free time I go to the viewing park - mainly if something interesting is coming in."

"It is a great feeling getting the waving photographs - shots where there is acknowledgement from the crew."

"It's definitely the best thing that can happen for young spotters."

A wave back from pilots makes the day of those who gather there.

Every day, rain or shine, a faithful group of enthusiasts will gather, binoculars and cameras in hand.

But nothing makes a plane-spotter's day quite like a treasured moment of interaction with a captain or co-pilot in a safe moment as he makes his way to or from the runway.

Which is why pictures of such encounters garner thousands of 'likes' on social media.

And their numbers will multiply if an unusual plane like the Ukrainian built Antonov 225 or the dolphin-like Airbus Beluga comes into land.

Burke added: "I like night time exposures. Another of my favourite aspects is getting an artistic shot in nice sunlight or certain weather conditions."
