Norwegian (DY) Wednesday announced via its official Facebook account that its first brand new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is currently in production, and Swedish actress Greta Garbo has just been painted on the tail.
The low-cost carrier makes Swedish actress Greta Garbo the company's latest "tail-fin hero" on its newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
Norwegian is scheduled to take delivery of its first 787-9 Dreamliner in the near future, prior to inaugural service scheduled for New York JFK on March 27, 2016.
As Europe's third largest low-cost airline, Norwegian currently operates eight 787-8 Dreamliners and has ordered 30 of the bigger 787-9s for long-haul operations.
"Norwegian Heroes" on the airline's tail fins are a hallmark of Norwegian. The company normally honors famous Norwegian personalities on its planes -- among the other heroes on the fleet of Dreamliners are Edvard Munch, Roald Amundsen, Thor Heyerdahl and Henrik Ibsen -- and Hans Christian Andersen is the first Dane to appear on 787-8 Dreamliner.
The low-cost carrier also named its Boeing 737-86N (Registration LN-NOM) for Greta Garbo (1905-1990) in January 2015. The Swedish-born actress received a 1954 Honorary Academy Award "for her unforgettable screen performances" and in 1999 was ranked as the fifth greatest female star of all time by the American Film Institute.
