China Aviation Daily | Jan. 21, 2016

Airbus made the very first delivery of its newest A320neo aircraft to launch operator Deutsche Lufthansa AG on Wednesday, which opened a new era in commercial aviation.

The A320neo, equipped with all new technology Pratt & Whitney PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ engines, sets a new, even higher standard in aircraft efficiency, reducing emissions and noise as well as burning 15% less fuel than current generation aircraft from day one and 20% less by 2020.

Lufthansa's first A320neo with the registration D-AINA (MSN 6801) is expected to be transferred to its future home base in Frankfurt later this week, before the aircraft will be used for its first commercial flight to Hamburg on January 24. In addition to Hamburg Munich will also be one of the first two destinations of the A320neo. According to the airline, the A320neo has a total of 180 seats for Business Class and Economy Class passengers.

Lufthansa Group has ordered 116 of the new family -- including 45 A321neos -- for its Lufthansa and Swiss operating units.
