Two China Eastern Airlines (MU) planes bumped wings on the ground at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) on Wednesday noon, Xinmin Evening News reported.
At around 12:40 p.m., an arriving China Eastern flight MU2153 taxiing into gate No. 270 clipped the left wing of a departing flight MU2154, which was making its way to the runway from gate No. 269.
Flight MU2153, performed by an Airbus A319 (Registration B6466) had just arrived from Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
The other China Eastern Flight MU2154, performed by an A320, was scheduled to fly to Xi'an.
Passenger Lv Banlu told the reporter he was looking out the window when the plane lurched back from the gate and he felt a "very unnatural thump." He snapped a photo, showing a rugged edge of the upturned wing.
All passengers were deplaned the two aircraft normally. There were no injuries reported from the passengers or crews on board the A319 and A320 aircraft.
The Shanghai-based airline took both of the damaged aircraft out of service and rebooked the passengers on another flight to Xi'an, MU2154's intended destination.
The airlines said in a statement that the exact cause of the collision is still under investigation.
