China Aviation Daily | Feb. 02, 2016

The 8,888th Boeing 737 aircraft officially joined the fleet of Xiamen Airlines, after a Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft touched down at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport at 8:35 p.m. on February 1.

The new 737-800 aircraft, Registration B-7178, features a special livery commemorating the airplane's significance. Just as seven is considered a lucky number for Boeing, eight is considered to be a fortunate number in Chinese culture because it sounds similar to the word that means "prosperity" or "wealth."

Che Shanglun, president and chairman of Xiamen Airlines welcomed the aircraft by a warm ceremony at Xiamen airport. "With the special lucky number livery, the airplane also brings our best wishes of good fortune for our passengers," Mr. Che said.

The lucky airplane is the third new 737-800 aircraft to be delivered to Xiamen Airlines in 2016, following another two (Registration B-7179 and B-7177) handed over on January 25 and January 30.

Xiamen Airlines has now expanded its fleet size to 133 Boeing airplanes, including 17 737-700s, 106 737-800s, 4 757-200s and 6 787-8s.
