A newly-built airport in Bo'ao, host of the annual Bo'ao Forum for Asia (BFA) in South China's Hainan Province, started its trial run today.
A Boeing 737-800 aircraft of Hainan Airlines, performing flight HU777 from Beijing, touched down at Bo'ao Airport at 12:20 p.m., marking the very first commercial flight of the airport.
The Beijing-Bo'ao service is operated on a daily basis, the Haikou-based carrier said.
To facilitate travel to the town of Boao in Hainan Province for 2016 BFA, which will be held from March 22 to March 25, Hainan Airlines will operate two charter services from Beijing and Shenzhen. In the long-term, Hainan Airlines will offer nine services linking Bo'ao with hub cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
In line with a 4C class standard, Bo'ao Airport will build a runway of 2,600 meters in length and 45 meters in width, as well as a terminal building covering 9,000 square meters and 26 parking bays.
Bo'ao Airport currently can accommodate narrow-body jets like Airbus 320 and Boeing 737, as well as business jet and private aircraft. There is a plan to upgrade the airport in the future so that wide-body jets such as Boeing 747 can land.
