Video: Flight Simulation Recreates China Eastern A319 Final Approach at Kangding
China Aviation Daily | May 10, 2016
On May 9, China's civil aviation authority published a preliminary CEFA visualization of China Eastern Airlines flight MU5443 based on flight data recorder.
The preliminary flight reconstruction provides a cockpit view from an Airbus A319 approaching Kangding runway at speeds and altitudes of flight MU5443.
On May 1, China Eastern A319-100, Registration B-6430 performing flight MU5443 from Chengdu to Kangding, suffered damage to its tail and tires when the aircraft struck approach lights causing parts of the approach lights to penetrate the aircraft's right hand horizontal stabilizer resulting in an additional hydraulic leak from the green hydraulic system.
The aircraft went around and returned to Chengdu for a landing on runway 02R without further incident.
The landing failure could have resulted in a serious plane crash, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said, adding that the pilot hit the ground too hard at too high a speed under bad weather conditions.
This video gives a view of what those China Eastern pilots were facing as they tried to land.
