Video: British Airways A380 Aborts a Landing at the Last Second
May 18, 2016
This footage shows the moment a British Airways Airbus A380 dramatically aborts a landing at the last second - just feet above the runway.
The video was captured at Vancouver International Airport and shows flight BA85, from London Heathrow, come close to touching down before powering back up and away.
A serving airline captain told MailOnline Travel that the missed landing was probably down to misjudgment on the pilot's part.
He said: "It is most likely a manual landing -- 95 percent of landings are done manually by the pilot -- that was slightly misjudged."
The video was shared on YouTube, with the filmmaker writing: "Looks like she may have flared [when the nose comes up for the landing] a little too early, and ended up floating before going around."
"What an impressive beast. This is a definite must watch."
After performing a go around -- when an arriving aircraft on final approach aborts a landing by applying take-off power and climbing away from the airport -- the A380 made a safe landing.
A spokesperson for British Airways told MailOnline Travel: "Our highly-trained pilots landed the aircraft safely."
"Safety and security is always our top priority."
